What a 27 year old should do in his life before aging past the calendar

Only 3 to 4 years to go… What a 27 year old should do in his life before aging past the calendar? What I have learned in my 27 years of existence, etc…etc…

At 27, have you ever asked yourself what kind of life you have today? Or are you already living the stable life you want? Or maybe, you’re in a stage of denial, not accepting the fact that 3 to 4 years from now your age will no longer be in the calendar, and you’re feeling the vein of maturity getting tighter. For those who are not a fan of this age because of the uncertainty that lies ahead, you have to take the risks yourself and accept all the possible consequences and responsibilities that you have today.

As someone who just turned 27, I just want to share to you the few things that I’ve learned in my life that I hope can change yours.

SELF RELIANCE

Being 27, I don’t feel and can’t imagine that I am now in my 27 years of existence in this sophisticated world and enduring the battles of my life. But I don’t regret my life today. I only accept everything with anticipation and dedication to learn.

I have learned to rely on my own to get what I want in life, with the guidance and blessing of both my parents who have always stood by my side. I know they won’t be around forever because nothing in this world is permanent. Knowing that my loved ones will be gone someday, I told myself, I want to explore and do what I want in life at this point so I won’t have any regrets someday.

An older friend once told me, “Rex, you have to settle your life at your age now, you’re not too young anymore. You shouldn’t act like a 23 year old!” As a man already raising a family at the age of 32, his regrets are piling up, with lack of money, a decent home, a good job, and means to support his children, all because he failed to act earlier.  I understand him and I should learn from his situation.

EXPOSURE IS THE MOST POWERFUL TOOL

To justify, I am so thankful that I have achieved my dream at this age. And that dream is to work in an Advertising agency as a copywriter; being part of creating successful TV, Radio and Print commercials.

Though in my spare time, I do write and contribute articles to two leading tabloid newspapers in the country with its fearless, balanced news and views at some point. I also wrote for a Local Government Unit (LGU) newspaper somewhere in my hometown last year but the PDAF controversy has been blown up the people’s trust in the government and the said newspaper, which allegedly benefited from the funds.

Though everyone has been expecting that I earn a big salary from my high profile jobs, outspokenly, I don’t earn much from my regular job or in my sidelines as a writer-contributor. Honestly, I don’t really attach monetary values to my dreams.

All I can earn from that is the experience and the exposure from the industry where I am working at, which I couldn’t strive in college. The experiences to write and conceptualize plenty of ideas are the best part of my job as well. By doing this, I have to come up with worthy ideas to present to clients; know the brand positioning and understand the target market are just basics of the job.

I talk to different kinds of people, the Board of Directors from different companies, the Managers, often VP and the President. Not only was I able to improve my writing and oral but my ability to know what people need from me, what we can give and offer to them. To connote, I am happy to do these things. Money doesn’t matter, but the exposure is the most powerful tool in my life and I consider it as my achievement.

LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT TODAY

Time will come when we’re not as healthy as we were. Sometimes, we need to set aside our loatheness on something we do then plan to live a healthier life. We need to be more conscious in our health as well and avoid drinking and smoking to release anger or to be happy.

Many of us today at merely age of 27 are quietly serious to settle up their plan in life. At our age of 27 we need to mend everything and have the goal to invest and ensure our lives are in the right way at the right time, so we have lesser worries in the future.

THE SHORT TERM AND LONG TERM DECISIONS

Some of my classmates in elementary, high school and in college already have their own family. Some of them have their own businesses and they earn a lot of money, others work abroad. I am simply writing my heart out, and I love it.

The decisions you choose today will dictate your happiness someday. This is not about if we’re going to choose a short term or a long time decisions, the important thing here is you enjoy your life wherever it is at. Just hangout to life and be thankful to God and by at large, take big risks and be mature enough.

Although you’re not getting any younger you’re still far from being too old. Have enough time to travel as often as you can; you have a lot of opportunities than the older ones. Like the TV commercial said, ‘you can do more!”. You’re only 27, and by that age you have to consider everything you have and not neglecting yourself without any perceptible reasons. Only just by doing more! Coz life is too short, just go ahead and move to the top! Pals and Gals! This is not self-reliance either, this is all about accepting the fact that we’re now getting older but don’t worry about your age today, worry about what you can do to your life ahead before it’s too late.

SOMEHOW, BEING AMBITIOUS IS THE KEY TO ATTAIN YOUR GOAL IN LIFE

I dunno (don’t know) if am too ambitious in life but all I can say is, this is my life and I don’t want to waste my time with no sense at all. Being ambitious or being a dreamer is the key to attain my goal in life. And that goal is what I have today. I believe, if you’re too ambitious you can go anywhere and by that, you can reach everything you possess in life but never abuse it.

Finally, put GOD FIRST in your life before anything. To quote, GOn to your Dream, Fulfill It and Raise to Seek help and Thank God. (RBM)
